Dear All,
We will have a luncheon seminar by Prof. Dr. Jui-Hsiang Liu
on April 29, 2010.
The seminar will start at 12:10 in a meeting room (# 503) on 5F of the
GSE Common EAST (U1E) building (Kohso-toh).
Title and abstract of his lecture are shown below,
- Title: Color Tunable Photonic Crystals Induced From Imprinted Cholesteric Structure on Achiral Polymers Using Various Nematic Liquid Crystals
- Abstract: We have conceived of a new methodology for preparing achiral
non-LC polymer networks with the ability to induce cholesteric liquid
crystals (CLCs), revealing unique optical properties. A CLC molecular
arrangement can be imprinted successfully on an achiral non-LC polymer
network. The CLC-imprinted polymer architectures show the ability to
re-induce the CLC arrangement with selective light reflection from nematic
LCs in the absence of chiral dopants. The optical properties of the CLC
films could be changed locally through this process, making the materials
suitable for display applications. In addition, introduction of National
Cheng Kung University, Institues in Taiwan, and Interesting places for
sightseeing will be delivered as well.
